Who should I fit in Duette lenses?

Duette HD is ideal for any patient who wants to see their best. Reach for Duette HD for patients who are unhappy with their vision in soft lenses, frustrated with fluctuating vision or are ready to see better at night. Duette HD is also an excellent lens for GP wearers who love the vision GP lenses deliver but would like the wearability of a soft lens.

Can I fit Duette on keratoconus and other irregular corneas?

No, Duette lenses are designed for your normal cornea patients and are not approved for patients with any type of corneal irregularity. Reach for the SynergEyes UltraHealth lens for your keratoconus and irregular cornea patients.

What is the difference between Duette Progressive and Duette Multifocal?

Duette Progressive is the newest Duette lens for presbyopes and has a single zone size (3mm) with a choice of three add powers: +1.00,+1.75 and +2.50. Duette Multifocal has two zone size options (small and large) with all available add powers built into the add zone. Both lenses are built on the Duette hybrid platform.

What am I looking for at the follow-up visit?

Good lens movement and patient comfort

• Verify movement on blink up to 1mm.
• In the absence of a dry eye diagnosis, patients should get a full day of comfortable wear with most wearing comfortably between 8 and 14 hours.

Corneal health

• Perform a slit lamp evaluation to assess the cornea and epithelium for signs of insult.
• If the patient complains of discomfort when wearing the lenses or temporary spectacle blur after wearing the lenses, use fluorescein to check the cornea for SPE and/or assess the lens fit.

Check acuities at all distances

• Distance visual acuity should be acceptable to the patient. Near vision should be functionally clear at the patient’s personal working distance.

What do I do if the patient reports discomfort at follow-up?

Your patient should be able to comfortably wear her Duette lenses for 8 to 14 hours each day. If that is not the case:

1. Check for dry eye and treat any dry eye conditions.
2. Check the lens fit to confirm adequate movement. A flatter skirt may be necessary.
3. Consider a solutions reaction and recommend a hydrogen peroxide disinfection system if necessary.

What do I do if vision is unacceptable at follow-up?

First, confirm the patient is not over-minused and that there is no residual astigmatism present. Adjust the lens power as necessary.

To troubleshoot multifocal vision complaints:

• Do not make any changes until the patient has been wearing the lenses for at least two weeks. Adapting to the optical system of the Duette Multifocal lens is like adapting to progressive glasses. Making changes to the lens parameters before adaptation has taken place greatly increases the likelihood of failure.

What do I do if my patient reports filming or fogging on the lens surface?

Lens filming or fogging may be caused by:

• A tight fitting lens
  • Ensure the base curve is closely aligned with the flattest K and that the patient is wearing the flattest possible skirt.

• Oil-based cosmetics
  • Instruct patients to avoid all makeup, hand soaps and lotions containing oil.
  • Oil-based cosmetics will permanently damage the plasma coating on the lens.

• Improper care
  • Train patients to use a soft lens daily cleaner to clean their lenses each night.
  • Patients that are prone to deposits may need to store their lenses overnight in Clear Care rather than a multi-purpose solution.
