Carlsbad, CA (January 2011) – SynergEyes, Inc., the leader in hybrid contact lens technology, has announced the launch of its second generation silicone hydrogel hybrid contact lens, Duette™. Now available in the United States, Duette™ is the first silicone hydrogel hybrid contact lens specifically designed for patients with normal corneas.
Approved for marketing by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Duette™ lens incorporates never-before-available materials for both the RGP center and the soft lens skirt. The high modulus MaxVu™ RGP has a Dk of 130 and class II UV blocker incorporated, while the high-Dk, low modulus silicone hydrogel skirt has a Dk of 84 and is 32% water. A patent-pending surface treatment, HealthyEyes™, increases wettability and resists protein deposits to maximize comfort.
Duette™ also introduces a new state-of-the-art hybrid lens design that eliminates many problems commonly associated with soft toric contact lens wear, such as discomfort, less-than-optimal vision, night vision problems or instability on the eye. Duette™ is rotationally symmetric and provides corneal astigmatism correction without inconsistent axis shift by utilizing an optimized lacrimal layer to decrease aberrations and enhance optical performance. As a result, the lens provides superior visual quality to normal cornea patients in a comfortable, healthy way.
“Duette™ represents the movement of hybrid contact lens technology from treating irregular corneas to providing an unprecedented combination of visual acuity and comfort to normal cornea patients that walk into the office every day,” said Kellie Kaseburg, Vice President, Global Marketing SynergEyes, Inc. ”Duette™ delivers on all of the things eye care professionals have been looking for in a hybrid contact lens.”
Duette™ is currently available in sphere powers of +4.00D to -12.00D and is offered in five base curves and three skirt curves. The lens is approved to correct up to 6.00 diopters of corneal astigmatism. Eye care professionals interested in prescribing Duette™ should visit www.fitsynergeyes.com to order a diagnostic fitting set.
SynergEyes is the leader in hybrid contact lens technology, combining a rigid gas permeable center and a soft outer skirt. The result is a durable “hybrid” lens for patients seeking crisp, clear vision and the all-day comfort of a soft lens. SynergEyes lenses with FDA market-clearance include Duette™ for naturally occurring ametropia, targeting patients with astigmatism, current soft toric lens wearers, and patients demanding optimized vision; ClearKone® for keratoconus, SynergEyes® Multifocal for presbyopia and SynergEyes® PS for post-surgery and post-trauma refractive errors.
